DIY: Pearly Embellished Collar

Saturday, 2 June 2012 @ 13:36 | 9 Comments

Hiii. How is everyone? I have seriously neglected blogging for quite some time now (almost a year!). Not sure why I stopped in the first place, but I'm hoping to get back into the swing of things. Especially now that I have finished Uni for the summer :).
I've always wished I was one of those talented people who customises almost every item in their wardrobe, to make it more unique and their own. However, I must say I lack in imagination and certain craft skills so I can never quite be part of this group.
Having all this spare time has led me to shop...a lot. And the sunny weather has just been a bigger motivator. Something that happened to me quite regularly was that I'd spot these tops with beautiful embellished collars. BUT as soon as I looked at the price tag, I had to place it straight back down. Some high street retailers (ahem, Topshop) hike up their prices for these items, whereby I just cannot justify the RRP. This soon provoked my DIY side and caused me to scour Ebay for some inspiration. I'm not saying that this DIY is exactly like the ones you see in the shops, but it sure does save you quite a few pennies by doing it yourself!

I bought my beads from this Ebay Seller. They're cheap and provide a quick delivery.
Such an easy DIY, yet so cute.
All I did was hand sew the beads onto the collar, and there you have it.
 Your own DIY embellished collar!
I did double up the thread as a safety precaution to prevent them from falling off.

I'm also thinking of getting this lace collar to sew onto a vest top of some sort. It's so vintage and adorable!
Hope everyone has a lovely weekend celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee! I'm just hoping the weather will pick up again here in the UK so we can party in the sun!
Love Love x

DIY: Ribbon Shoe-laces.

Thursday, 24 March 2011 @ 17:59 | 13 Comments

Oh my. I haven't blogged in wayyy too long. Imma sowwy! I'd like to say hello to my new readers!
Reason why i haven't blogged in a while is because i feel i haven't got anything TO blog about. I don't have a very interesting life! lol. I always feel like i need a point/reason to blog, rather than just a random post? Hmm. I'd like to know what you guys think!
I've just been doing a lot of overtime at work for moneys, but i'm a bit unsure because i earn just over the threashold where you start getting taxed, so i feel like I'm kinda working for not much more money? iunno. Money and taxes baffle me. But I did get paid today! But to stop spending money on crap, i transferred most of it to my savings. So the number has dropped back downnnn booo. Realised that i spend a lot of money on food. Not good not good. Making me fat and poor! Along with some crazy nights out with my friends. Although, I've been ill recently so alcohol hasn't been agreeing with me, but all in all, it's always great to catch up with friends!

Anywhoooo, I bought these healed brogues a few weeks back from Peacocks. I don't usually shop in Peacocks, but I do tend to find odd bits which i fall in love with, for example, these lovelies! It ended up only costing me £12 because they had a special where you got £5 off selected shoes, AND 20% off online. I love myself a good bargain :D I also bought myself these in beige. They're so comfy. I can't wait to wear them in the summer.
I thought I'd jazz it up with some ribbon laces, so i went looking online but they were no where to be found. Then i questioned myself...why I didn't make some? My recent laziness has led me to forget the amazing hobby of crafts. A simple technique, yet such pretty results. I love the new look, so i wanted to share it with you guys! It literally takes like 15 minutes.(longer if you're like me and can't decide which way is the best way to lace it through, haha!)
A very easy way to personalise your shoes, and you can have any colour you want!
I hope you guys liked this post. :)
I also have an interview today! Essentially the same job that i already have, but the place is sooo much closer, and the pay is better hoho. It's not till 9pm! Which is crazy, but i hope i get it! So yes yes, wish me luck! I know i'll get really nervous sooner the time!
How has everyones week been? YYAAAAAYY, It's friday tomorrow! I should be going to a pub crawl thingy on saturday which starts at 9am! I can never ever drink that early. Whilst other people will be downing beers, i'll probably stick to my usual morning tea.
Thank you for all your comments. I always love to read them.
Love Love! x

Ps. OH i forgot to mention that there is this Ah-mazing offer on The Body Shop website where you can get £51 worth of products for around £19. It's only till 4pm tomorrow so grab it up quick, especially if you still haven't spent your Groupon voucher!

DIY: Passport Cover

Tuesday, 25 January 2011 @ 17:30 | 11 Comments

Hellohello! Two sleeps until i go to Venice, yayayay. I've been meaning to make myself a passport cover for a while, but keep forgetting! Luckily though, while going through my usual blog reads, I came across Vicky's Blogpost, where she made this really cute hello kitty sleeve for her passport! She used this tutorial from sewbunnybums blog. I love how the instructions are laid out, making it really easy to follow. I'm quite a visual person, so I really don't like reading through step by step guides without photos to help me. I used some leftover fabric i had (recognise the material? Its from my bunting :P) I'm really happy with the way it turned out. I also used some lace to add a little decoration to it. I hope you guys try this out as well! It'll make all the other flyers jealous of your own personalised passport sleeve :D
Heres a few photos of my creation...

Hows everyone's week so far? I went shopping yesterday and found like THE perfect pair of shoes ever. They were also on sale, down to £25! But when i went to the checkout, the girl noticed that the pair of shoes didn't match, with one shoe in a size 3 and the other a size 4! She got a guy to go back down to the stockroom to find the right shoes but he said he could only see a size 8 pair down there. Thhheeenn he tried to order them, but noooo, they don't stock the shoes anymore! Booooo! So they must have sold an odd pair. I'm just wondering whether the girl who bought it  might have not noticed it yet, or she has odd feet. Hmmm. I was saaddd, but now i'm just angry LOL. Shoooeeesssss >___<

DIY: CROCHETED BOW

Wednesday, 22 December 2010 @ 18:00 | 7 Comments

Hello ^-^, I can't believe it's so close to christmas! It feels like it's going to be over too quick! Boohoo.
I've been experimenting with crocheting recently. I find it so thereputic! I can't believe i haven't tried learning it before now! I must admit that i'm better with knitting at this stage. I find crochet a little more fiddly, and i'm pretty sure i don't hold everything right! But practice makes perfect(ish)! I've been learning from videos on youtube. My favourite so far are videos by Theresa. Check out her channel HERE, she has so many, including how to crochet cupcakes, biscuits and hearts!

I want to crochet little bits and bobs to decorate clothing and such. A few days back, I crocheted this bow and sewed it on my knitted hat :)

I made this using the following pattern:

Abbreviations:
ch = chain
hdc = half double crochet

Materials:
4.00mm Crochet Hook
DK Yarn (in whatever colour you like)

Bow:
Ch20, hdc in third ch from hook, and in each ch across, turn.
Row 1: ch2, hdc in next st and in each across, turn.
Rows 2-7: repeat row1.
Cut yarn and weave in ends.

Bow centre:
Ch8, hdc in third ch from hook, and in each ch across.

Finishing:
Sew bow center around bow, gathering the middle of the bow and joining edges of bow centre.
(taken from Creativeyarn)

My boyfriend gave me these as an early christmas present. They're so cute but sooo biiggg. I love them but i don't think i'm brave enough to wear these out! I think you'd have to be pretty confident to pull these off! I felt like it was a bit of a waste, but then i thought i could wear them around my neck like an accessory :P. From afar, they look a bit like strawberry headphones!

If you want to get you hands on these i think they were from Strawberry Bunny.
But i only know that they have a store in Bluewater atm. However, you can order from their site.

Ps. Ooh, me and my family are going to go to this new thai restaurant thats just opened a few months back. I love thai food! I think my favourites are Pad Thai, Mango Salad and of course green curry! Yuumm. Hopefully the food is nice. When i called up to reserve a table, the background noise was really loud! I hope it's a good sign meaning lots of people enjoy eating there! Do you like thai food? What's your favourite dish?

DIY: Origami Stars

Friday, 17 December 2010 @ 18:32 | 7 Comments

It's snowing! Nooooo. The main reason for my objection is because this weekend is supposed to be when me and my friends are having a christmas dinner, after not seeing most people since august! Bah, i hope it's only a little and doesn't cause any disruption. Snow is pretty and fun for like the first day, but after that, i get real tired of how everything is at a standstill! (and also slipping on my arse).
To the point, this is a simple idea for what you could do to spruce up some christmas presents.
I used leftover wrapping paper(all those scraps you can't really use anymore) and made some Origami Stars. Origami stars was one of the first things i made using origami techniques when i was younger. It's dead easy once you get the hang of it (sometimes its hard to push the sides in to make it 3 dimentional, usually due to the fact that the strip of paper you started off with wasn't long enough, as it needs to be slightly thick to hold it's shape :])

For people who don't know how to make an origami star:
Click Here for a step by step guide i found, which includes diagrams too! ^-^

And if you prefer a video, i found this one on Youtube.
(It's in Japanese, but is subtitled. I like the fact that he uses a large strip so you can see everything more clearly)

Some origami star 'tags' to add a little personal touch to presents :D

It's a really simple, but because i didn't make my own tags or wrapping paper, i wanted to add a bit of my own touch to my presents.

To make origami star tags, you need:
Scrap bits/unused wrapping paper (shiny ones are the best)
Scissors
Ruler
Pencil
Needle and Thread (i used gold)
Beads (optional)

1. Measure out your strips onto the wrapping paper. For the small ones, i made them 1cm x 25cm(ish). For the larger ones, they were 2cm x 45cm(ish). But of course, you can make yours any size you like! Just remember that if you make it wider, you also need to make it longer.
2. Cut out your strips and start making the stars!
3. Thread your stars together! Mix and match sizes and patterns to give it a more unique feel. I also doubled over the thread to make it stronger. Once your done, just tie a knot at the top to stop them from sliding off. (you can also thread some beads inbetween if you want)
4. Admire your work. :P

I also hung some on my mini christmas tree!

I painted my nails last night. I've been playing with glitter nail varnish for the last month. I love the look, but i feel that you will usually only get away with this much glitter around christmas and new year. So i'm making the most of it! (ahh, dry hands >__<)

Ps. Michelle posted a tutorial up on how to make your own gift tags. They look so sweet, if you haven't already, go check it out here.

Bag in a bag.

Sunday, 5 December 2010 @ 20:03 | 3 Comments

Hey all! Hope everyone had a nice weekend. I got paid the Thursday and am running low on money already due to christmas presents! Bah! Also, going to Bluewater shopping centre doesn't help at all! But i was so proud and didn't end up buying a single thing for myself, which is very rare!

Me and my friends decided to be cool (LOL) and head to the shopping centre at 3 in the afternoon. Yup. The place is usually so bloody busy and i literally want to scream all the time. It doesn't close until 10pm, so we thought even if we went late, there would be enough time to shop. And what a great decision it was! By the time we got there, the crowds were starting to die down. You can actually shop freely without moving out of someones way every 5 seconds. There were so many bags that i wanted to buy, but i refrained.
When we finished shopping, we went to get a quick meal at Mcdonalds, before hitting the road again. (tut tut @ myself for giving into a McDonalds) I ordered medium fries with a mayo chicken. We waited a while and i think the worker felt bad, so she offered a Mcchicken sandwich (which is a bigger version of the mayo chicken), which of course! i had to oblige. Then when we opened the bag, she also gave us large chips. Yeaahhh. So ended up paying less for more. Mwahaha. She's evil, trying to get me fat. ¬_¬
I also found that there were loads of chavs outside mcdonalds, without ANY shopping bags. How could they all come to a shopping centre and not buy one thing? Seriously, whats the point.

Gosh, i really can ramble. Back to the main post. I titled it bag in a bag. Reason is because i made these little zippered pouches to hold neccessities and fiddly things that usually fall to the bottom of my bag.

I also made another smaller one, to keep girly things, if you know what i mean ;)

If you want to try this yourself, theres a tutorial HERE. Its really easy and simple. I don't own a good enough sewing machine to have a zipper foot so i just hand sewed that bit.
Also, if you choose to add details to the pouch, make sure you do all that before you start sewing it together! So basically after you cut out the pieces.

Try using a double sided zip! After i made it, i realised that you could flip it inside out and have a totally new pattern!

Have a browse around the site as well! They have loads of projects which you could try! I love these kinda sites and blogs. If anyone knows any good ones, make sure you share them with me! I'd love to have a look myself :)

DIY/TUTORIAL: PRETTY BUNTING

Wednesday, 1 December 2010 @ 17:00 | 2 Comments

Hey all! Its getting nearer to christmas and its finally snowed where i live. But only a little though so no snowball fights yet! I brought out my wellies in what seems like forever ago since i've worn them. They're perfect for keeping your feet warm and dry, but the material is always so stiff so it makes me walk like a toy soldier because i can't bend my ankles properly.
I finally have a day off work today! Although they freakin called me at 6am probably to see if i could come in. I just hung up on them LOL. I need this day off!
Anyway, back to the point!
This is my first time posting a tutorial. The lighting in them are awful but i tried to edit it as much as possible so that you're actually able to see it. The light source was mainly from my lamp on my desk. I also hope that its easy to follow and understand!

What You Need:

1/2 metre - 1 metre of printed cotton depending on how long you want yours. I only needed half a metre of fabric, which made 8 triangles.
2 - 3 metres of bias or ribbon. This also depends on how long you want it. I used around 2 metres for mine.
Thread. Ideally something that matches your fabric
Scissors.
A Sewing Machine! Or if you want to handstitch, then a needle!

Before you start, make sure your fabric is nice and flat so give your material a quick iron.

STEP ONE:

Cut out bunting shaped triangles. I used this TEMPLATE. Print it out and then cut off the top bit to make it into a triangle. Lay it on top of the fabric and cut around it. I just drew around the template as the pen marks wouldn't be seen anyway.

You should end up with a bunch of cut of triangles. I cut out 16 triangles to make 8 flags for the bunting. The amount of triangles will need to be an even number!

STEP TWO:

With right sides facing together, sew along the highlighted lines. Do this for the rest of the triangles.

You should end up with lots of pretty triangles!

STEP THREE:

Iron all the triangles so that they're nice and flat.

Also iron the bias in half lengthways.

STEP FOUR:

Cut the top of the triangles (open side of the flag) to make them neater. Forgot to take a photo! But its a pretty simple step anyway.

STEP FIVE:

Slip each flag in between the bias. Pin or tack in place.
Leave about 1cm between each flag.
Make sure you leave enough bias at each end so you can tie it up.
When you're done pinning or tacking everything down, start sewing along the hightlighted line all the way across your bunting.

STEP SIX:

Finish off the ends. Fold the ends inwards and then continue to sew lengthways.

FINISHED!

 Snow outside my window!

I attached letters onto my bunting as i'm making this for a friend for christmas. It gives it a little more of a personal touch.

If you want to do this then heres a few added steps:
[Do all these before step two above]

a) Cut out letters from a contrasting piece of fabric. [I printed out the letters on paper and used that as a template]

b) Sew them on using the zig zag stitch along the edges of the letter. The zig zag stitch helps the fabric from fraying.

c) MAKE SURE YOU STITCH THE LETTERS ON BEFORE YOU STITCH THE TRIANGLES TOGETHER.

Easy Peasy :) (At least i hope it appears so!)

I hope this is easy to understand! And if you attempt it, send me a piccy as i'd love to see your result!
If you're at all confused or want to ask questions, just comment below and i'll try and help as much as i can!

ps: OH...Pinch, punch, first day of the month!

DIY: DOORSTOP

Monday, 29 November 2010 @ 18:58 | 5 Comments

I'm breaking the chain of the 30 day blog challenge! Naughty me. But the next challenge requires me to take quite a few photos, but everytime i get home from work, theres no daylight! Bloody winter.
So i'm filling this with photos of what i made for a christmas present for a friend!
I know it's a little random, but she needs it so it's all gooooood.
I made it probably in a space of an hour. It was very quick and easy to make, even if you're a beginner! And i love the satisfaction you get when you make things yourself.
So if you ever need to make one, i recommend you use this pattern i found on Wolf and Willow. I love her blog. Everything is so pretty!

The measurements are in yards, but i bought around half a metre of each fabric and still have loads left over. Mine isn't as nice as hers obviously! But I bought the melon pattern because my friend's nickname is melon.
And i needed more than 2kg of rice, so maybe you need another 500g bag. I bought cheapo rice which were asda price ;)

And FYI, it does hold open my door. HOORAH!
Heres the link again, DOORSTOP PATTERN
I shall try and post up the next challenge tomorrow. If not, then i might post up a tutorial kinda thing on how to make a bunting. Which i hope people will understand O__O.

Cupcake Dangles

Thursday, 28 October 2010 @ 10:29 | 2 Comments

This is my first attempt making these.
I've seen some others online and thought they were so cute i'd give it a try.
Of course they're not as amazing as some others but i had fun making these!
I'm thinking of giving them to my besties as a stocking filler for Christmas.
I always feel more excited giving people presents that i have made, even if its as simple as these.
I don't think they turned out too bad to be honest, but i'm a little annoyed that dust has attracted itself onto the clay.*sigh* Pooooo.

I also tried the barry m effect nail varnish. It's so freaky. But i found that the varnish was quite gunky? I'm not sure if it's supposed to be like that or whether its just my one. I was thinking of adding some polish thinner but i'm scared that it may ruin the formula.

If you wanted to try these yourself, I used Fimo Clay, you can buy them really cheap off Ebay. Theres loads on there. The clay is like playdough, then you make it solid by putting it in the oven for around 20 minutes. Make sure you keep an eye on it! I burnt one once and it left a horrible chemical smell in my oven and kitchen for ages! Not good...

I bought the dangles and rings from a local bead shop, but I'm pretty sure you can buy these on Ebay as well.

Hope everyone has a good weekend and enjoy Halloween!

Ps. I saw Despicable Me yesterday and it was SO GOOD. I recommend it ALOT. =)
